Course #1: Focus on Physics, ages 9 – 11
November 2 – December14, 2011(omitting the November 23 Thanksgiving holiday)
Investigate the principles of forces and motion, the pushes and pulls of the universe, including how these forces impact our daily lives. We will set things spinning, rolling, sliding and bouncing as we observe and describe the laws of motion. We will also be hands-on with our new traveling exhibit “Team Up” as we explore the close relationship between physics and physical activities!
Course #1: Focus on Chemistry, ages 7 & 8
November 2 – December14, 2011(omitting the November 23 Thanksgiving holiday)
Calling all chemists! Get ready to experiment, mix, measure and more in this fun and educational introduction to chemistry. Topics will include states of matter, density, physical changes, and chemical changes. Investigate polymers, bioluminescence, exothermic and endothermic reactions, the chemistry of acids and bases, and more! It’s a whole periodic table full of hands-on fun!
Course #2: Mostly Math, ages 9 – 11
February 22 – March 28, 2012
This class is an artistic exploration of dimensions, geometry, patterns, tesselations, ratios and more. Students will construct kites, create fabulous polyhedrons, and plot images on a grid. They will explore the structure of bubbles and compare the area of many geometrical polyhedrons. They will learn about ratios by shrinking and growing their own Alice in Wonderland in this hands-on mathematical adventure.
Course #2: Focus on Biology, ages 7 & 8
February 22 – March 28, 2012
From the simplest cells to the most complicated organisms, explore the astounding life that supports, surrounds, and includes US! Look under a microscope, investigate DNA, and take part in a number of hands-on lessons involving botany and zoology. Experience a world without opposable thumbs, assemble a human skeleton and engage in a variety of activities that compare the rest of life on planet Earth to humans. In this inclusive program, students will discover which area of biology most captures their imagination and interest.
PICK UP: Parents must pick up students promptly at the end of each session. A late fee of $10 will be charged for every 15 minutes – or portion thereof – after the end of the scheduled class.
