Fall Happenings at The Health Adventure

Flip It, Fold It, Figure It Out! Family Day: The Art of Math
Saturday, October 21
12:30 p.m.

Join us to make beautiful colored salt paperweights to take home. Where's the math? Measuring, measuring, measuring! This program is recommended for children ages 4 and above.
Family Days are free for members or with museum admission.

Quilt Day
Saturday, October 28
10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.�or 1:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Sewing machines will be running all day at the museum as crafters from the Asheville Quilt Guild teach about basic quilting techniques and patterning. Participants will get hands-on experience and their own quilt square to take home! You may choose either the morning or afternoon session.
This program is $4 per person for members/$8 per person for non-members. Registration is required. Please call 254-6373, Ext. 329 to register.

Fabulous Friday: Puzzle & Painting Pizazz
Friday, November 3
10:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Macaroni butterflies and swish art will tickle your child's creative side, while puzzles and mazes will challenge the logical side. Make room on the refrigerator--here comes another masterpiece!
Fabulous Fridays are $5 per child for members/$7 per child for non-members. To RSVP, please call 254-6373, Ext. 329.

Homeschool Happenings
Wednesday, November 8
1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Kindergarten - Grade 1: The Artistry of Math
Children will discover how math and art combine through the exploration of geometry.
Grades 2 - 3: Origami Mobiles
The ancient Japanese art for of origami will be used to create moveable sculpture.
Grades 4 - 5: Rainforest Insects
Students will get up close and personal with a few rainforest insects to learn more about their biology.
Grades 6 - 8: Robot Engineering
The scientific method of engineering will be used as students build, test and modify their own robots.

Fun and FOOLishness!
Saturday, November 11
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Join us for a unique one-day workshop to rediscover the humor and play in daily life. This experiential program is a must for those who suffer from mirthless nights or psychosis of seriousness. If belly hoots are simply a fond memory, this workshop is the cure!

Flip It, Fold It, Figure It Out! Family Day: Add Up the Fun
Saturday, November 18
12:30 p.m.
Bring your family to play fun board games that you can take home to enjoy. Even simple games involve counting, adding and subtracting, strategies and mathematical thinking. Try Madagascar Solitaire, Hex, Tapatan, or Yut! This program is recommended for children ages 8 and older.
Family Days are free for members or with museum admission.

Get Some Momentum with our New CD!

The Health Adventure's newest CD will be music to your family's ears! Momentum: Songs about Science was produced through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, and features more than 30 minutes of original songs PLUS 10 minutes of science demonstrations, accessible when you pop the disc into your computer.

The family-friendly CD is a toe-tapping album that will appeal to all ages, featuring an eclectic mix of swing, folk, country, rock & roll and rap. With lyrics written by The Health Adventure's own Myra Lynch, and music composed and performed by Jim Taylor, Vice President of Programs & Exhibits, and friends, the project has been a labor of love.

Join Us for our CD Release Party!

A fun-filled CD release party is scheduled for Saturday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Pack Place. Guests are invited to a free sneak preview of the CD and select skits from our new stage show, "Gotta Move: The Great Big Motion Show." You'll also have the opportunity to purchase our CD for only $15�in�the museum's�Explore Store!

The Health Adventure Clown Show is Saturday!

Join us for some family fun and side-splitting silliness at The Health Adventure Clown Show on Saturday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. New skits, songs, face painting, balloon animals�and general clowning around are planned for a day that's sure to be a ball!

Known for their hilarious high-jinks and madcap merrymaking, The Health Adventure Clown Troupe has been entertaining the young and young-at-heart for over 17 years. The troupe, made up of volunteers and recent Clown Workshop graduates, performs throughout western North Carolina to raise funds in support of The Health Adventure's educational programs and exhibits.

Admission is FREE for members/$5 per person for non-members, and pre-registration is required. Please call 254-6373, Ext. 300 to reserve your family's space today!
