VOLUNTEERS OF THE HEALTH ADVENTURE HONORED AT ANNUAL LUNCHEON
ASHEVILLE - On November 5, The Health Adventure honored the hard work and dedication of some very special ‘staff' at its annual volunteer luncheon. With limited staff, the museum relies heavily on volunteers to perform a wide variety of tasks, making them truly essential to the organization's success. In fact, over the past year, volunteers of The Health Adventure have contributed almost 4,000 hours-a monetary equivalent of nearly $72,000!
During the luncheon, held at Celine's On Broadway, five awards were presented to volunteers who had been of exceptional service to The Health Adventure in 2007. In recognition of his contributions during various events, Larry Boone was honored with a Special Services Tribute award. Michelle LaRoque received the Volunteer Educator of the Year award for her work with craft stations and Family Days during our summer exhibit, The Magic School Bus Kicks Up a Storm. For her work in chairing the most successful gala in The Health Adventure's history, Teresa Macaluso was presented the Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year award. Holly Schryer was named Volunteer of the Year for her dedication to helping out in a myriad of ways, from setting up events to working at summer camp. Our highest volunteer honor, the TAM Award, was given to Bernie Arghiere. Bernie has lent his knowledge of astronomy to The Health Adventure through hosting stargazing events at his home, leading solar viewings during summer camp, instructing staff members and offering advice in the planning process for our new facility.
"Volunteers for The Health Adventure are vital to the organization's success," said Paige Johnson, President and CEO. "We simply could not function without them. Whether they are here once a week or once a year, they come with enthusiasm and passion for what they are doing. They offer us their knowledge, their experience, and their time, and they do it because they believe in what we do."
The Health Adventure, founded in 1968, is a health and science attraction for children and today's families, dedicated to improving health awareness, promoting wellness lifestyles, and increasing science literacy through programs and exhibits. For more information, visit www.thehealthadventure.org.
