Summer Groups
Thursday, 21 May 2009

Want to bring your group to The Health Adventure this summer?  We are offering the following programs to groups this summer:

Option 1:  A 90 minute exploration, including this summer’s traveling exhibit “Arthur’s World.”
Option 2:  One of the following 60 minute educator led programs followed by 30 minutes of exploration.  Program dates are limited – please call for availability.

I’m Somebody
Pre-K

Explore how people are alike and different and how we take care of our wonderful bodies.  Do a silly dance, build an Aiken Drum on a felt board, and discover how to avoid spreading germs with the help of a little magic germ dust.  The program ends with a lesson about acceptance-from a “Chirkendoose”.

Insects
K-2nd

What is an insect?  What is it like to live a “bug’s life”?  Students will build an understanding of insect biology (entomology!) while observing live insects up close and personal.  Investigate similarities and differences among insects and other animals.  Program animals may include:  Vietnamese stick insects, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, and a Giant African millipede.

Bones and Muscles
K-3rd

A terrific overview and hands-on exploration of the musculoskeletal system!  Check out the functions of bones and muscles.  How are joints like hinges?  Muscles like silly putty?   Students assemble a skeleton and work their own muscles!

Robot Design Lab
4th – 8th grade

(Also available in a 90 minute version- please request during your scheduling call! There is a cost increase for this option.)
Gather your resources for the Robot Challenge!  Teams of students will work together utilizing an assortment of mechanical parts- motors, pulleys, levers, and more-to design, build, and test a functioning robot.  This is so much fun they won’t even realize that they are sharpening scientific reasoning, design, and engineering skills!
