Explore the Science of Communication with our
Upcoming Exhibit: Get the Message
From an arched eyebrow to the front page news, people use a variety of
tools to communicate. Opening February 1, The Health Adventure’s upcoming
exhibit, Get the Message, explores the subtle structures we use when
sending and receiving information.
We use many different forms
of communication in our everyday lives. From the subtitles of speech to
signs and symbols, sending and receiving information from the world around
us is second nature. You and your family can play and experiment with all
the different ways you “get the message” in this exhibit. Try your
hand at virtual cave art or signal a crane operator. Puzzle over
expressions or send a message in Morse code. There’s so much to do
you’ll want to come back again and again!
Get the Message was
designed through a collaboration of Discovery Center Museum of Rockford,
Illinois and the Family Museum of Arts and Sciences of Bettendorf, Iowa
and supported by the National Science Foundation.

From Here to There Closes January
13
There's still time for you and your family to learn about the science
of motion in our current traveling exhibit, From Here to There.
You and your family can ride a hovercraft to experience air pressure,
launch rockets to explore propulsion, and float a boat to experiment with
air flow. One hundred feet of air tubes allow you to send colored balls
through the gallery from one station to another. A bead-pit construction
site shows how simple machines help move things, and the Mag-Lev explores
the potential of transportation using magnetic forces.
Each
hands-on exhibit is designed to encourage conversation and interaction
among families, friends and visitors. It's a fun, interactive lesson in
the laws of motion that you don't want to miss!
